Rain8WL - Wireless Sprinkler Controller
![]() |
The Rain8WL is a 8 to 256 zone modular sprinkler
controller that can be directly controlled by X10 wireless remotes
like the Palmpad (HR12A) or from any computer with an X10 wireless adapter
("Firecracker" CM17A).
For greater control,
each individual zone can be controlled independently (Manual Mode). |
How to set it up
To configure the Rain8 you connect it to your computer
and run the configuration utility application. This allows you to define
the X10 address zone assignments and set the operational mode. For maximum
flexibility you can choose between two different operational
modes.
| Automatic Zone Programmed Mode The Rain8WL can be used with nothing more than X10's Palmpad or Keychain wireless remotes. Anything that can generate a X10 RF command can trigger a complete irrigation sequence, cycling through all eight zones. When one zone times out, the next one starts. In this instance the time settings for each zone are stored internally. The Rain8 provides for two independent schedules, each with its own X10 trigger assignment and run times. More info... Manual Computer Controlled Mode This mode requires an individual ON and OFF to generate RF signal to start and stop each zone. This provides an easy means of adjusting run times for seasonal irrigation changes. As a safeguard, the user can set the maximum "valve on" time for each zone anywhere from 1 to 240 minutes. This guarantees that the sprinkler valve will turn off even in the absence of an X10 OFF command. As each sprinkler valve has its own default setting, this guarantees a minimum of wasted water in the advent of a lost X10 signal. Another safeguard to help in the conservation of water is the inter lock feature. Only one sprinkler valve is allowed on at a time. More info... |

Requirements and Specs
| The Rain8wl requires a RF signal
generated by an X10 device. This includes keychain remotes, Palmpad remotes or even
the Hawkeye motion sensor (makes a great deterrent to trespassers). Nothing else
is required. Pushing a single key can start a complete irrigation program or if you prefer
keys can be assigned to single on-off control of individual zones. It is possible to combine
these features and have the best of both worlds.
Computer based control is also possible and without the need of running wires between the Rain8 location and your computer. An X10 wireless adapter is connected to an available serial port on the PC and becomes the necessary link. You have a choice of using our stand alone software or other home automation software packages. Additional "slave" modules may be daisy chained to provide control and 24 VAC power to as many as 32 modules or 256 irrigation zones. |
